RESEARCH- TEXTILES

[1]

[2]
My initial inspiration for the bears fabric body were these coverlets from the 'British Folk Art' exhibition I went to a couple of years ago. I think the handmade quality and detail lend itself well to the forest folktale theme of my project, as well as telling stories themselves. I might consider doing a more modern version of this for my own project, combining contemporary ideas with a traditional craft.

Alicia Scardetta produces these colourful and bold weavings above, and I think they add texture and are another form of mark making, which is something I can consider for my own costume.

Again I think the mark making and thick, overlapped textures in these pieces by Marit Fujiwara could tell a story themselves. It's her mixed media work of printing techniques, fabric and stitching which could be interesting for me to work with for my FMP. Also, as with researching people such as Miyake, I think it's important to have a contemporary side to my research to bring in more ideas and growth to the final project.
