DESIGN BOARD CONTENT- OTHER ARTISTS- NARRATIVE ILLUSTRATION

Some examples of other illustrators work and how they might influence my FMP

David Litchfield, Freak Underwater [1]

This sequential illustration by David Litchfield shows movement effectively, emphasised by the static central character in the middle of the panel that rarely changes. I think the dark atmosphere of the drawing is enticing, and I like how it's showing a simple action of somebody diving, with a hidden reveal to the audience of what's really happening under the murky blue water. It's the depiction of this action that I think is interesting and could develop into my FMP.

Marcel Dzama- Myth, manifestos and monsters [2]

I think the delicate and creepy nature of Marcel Dzama's illustrations are something that I find most inspiring, as well as using mythological, weird animals and anthropomorphism to create surreal images.
Melissa Castrillon- Through the Night [3]
I think the wordless narrative of Melissa Castrillon's work is really interesting to follow, I especially find her layouts and the way she uses the page really interesting. She's another artist who utilises a limited colour palette, and that is something that I would definitely like to explore within my own FMP illustration
Isabel Greenberg- Dreadful Wind and Rain [4]
Isabel Greenberg is a great artist to look at for pacing a story, and although I may be more tempted to produce a wordless narrative, I definitely think I should also explore text and speech within my own narrative anyway. I think her use of handwritten text is especially effective, as is her mark making and background. Again, another illustrator who uses a limited colour palette on each page to emphasis mood and atmosphere.
